I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! campmate AJ Pritchard has confirmed he’s still headed into the jungle when the show launches on Sunday despite having contracted coronavirus last week.
The former Strictly Come Dancing pro revealed he’s since tested negative for Covid-19 on two occasions and has been given the go-ahead from ITV bosses to join the nine celebrities on the line-up in the Welsh castle.
‘Yes I did have a positive coronavirus test early into my isolation,’ AJ told Metro.co.uk. ‘I’m very happy to report that I’ve had two tests recently and they have both come back very negative which means I’m 100% going into the jungle.
‘I’m very excited about that. It’s a big relief for everybody. I just want to thank ITV for all their stringent measures. The whole point of us going into lockdown and isolating is just in case this does happen.’
AJ shared that he didn’t display any symptoms of the virus when he tested positive.
This year’s show will take place in Gwyrch Castle in Abergele, Wales, due to the coronavirus pandemic making the logistics of taking the celebrity cohort to Australia were impossible.
AJ disclosed that being invited onto I’m A Celebrity has been a ‘dream come true’ and has watched every series from series 1 to 19.
‘My family, especially my brother and my girlfriend, will be voting for me to do every trial,’ he enthused.
‘I just really want to take it in and do as much as possible.’
He also warned viewers he’ll be cracking out his snake hips and teaching his fellow contestants a few moves.
‘I’m sure there will be a little salsa masterclass, it will appear I’m sure it will,’ AJ added.
I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! begins on Sunday at 9pm on ITV.
