I’m A Celebrity 2020: Ant and Dec apologise to Beverley Callard for calling her husband ‘megashag’: ‘Soz Bev’

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly have extended an apology to Beverley Callard for their repeatedly caling her husband ‘megashag’, after she shared his cheeky nickname on the show.

Last week, while chatting with some of her fellow campmates, Coronation Street star Beverley, 63, revealed that she calls her husband Jon McEwan ‘megashag’, describing her spouse of 10 years as ‘gorgeous’ and saying that he ‘dances in his socks’ for her every morning.

Since Beverley’s candid revelation, Ant and Dec have repeated the term at every given opportunity, something which she only discovered after being voted off the programme on Monday night’s show alongside broadcaster Victoria Derbyshire.

During an appearance on Lorraine on Tuesday morning, Beverley said she ‘couldn’t believe’ the moment she called her husband ‘megashag’ was aired on TV, saying that she ‘wanted to die’ when Ant and Dec played the clip for her after her elimination.

Just two minutes into last night’s show, Ant and Dec mentioned ‘megashag’ again, prompting Beverley to tweet: ‘And they’re keeping it going,’ with a laughing-face emoji.

Ant and Dec then responded: ‘Soz Bev. Last time we promise,’ adding a sneaky crossed-fingers emoji in brackets.

Several I’m A Celebrity fans expressed their doubts that Ant and Dec will keep to their word.

‘It definitely won’t be the last time though, will it?’ one person tweeted.

‘As if!!! You’re going to keep it going to the bitter end, I just know it!’ another added.

Considering Ant and Dec tend to have a running gag about at least one of the contestants throughout I’m A Celebrity (remember Dennis Wise?), we have a feeling ‘megashag’ is here to stay.

While Beverley was taking part in I’m A Celebrity, her husband Jon revealed he is planning on surprising her by organising for them to renew their vows to one another.

‘I’ve never really understood why people renew their wedding vows, but I kind of do now. We’ve been through so much together, we should just reaffirm our love basically,’ he said while being interviewed on Loose Women.

I’m A Celebrity continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
