Beverley Callard’s daughter has insisted her mum is a vegan after she appeared to eat a Scotch egg on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!.

The Coronation Street actress declared at the start of the series that she doesn’t eat meat or animal byproducts, therefore making her exempt from the more grizzly eating trials.

However, Beverley sparked doubts over her credentials as it seemed she enjoyed a Scotch egg earlier this week.

Clearing things up on Instagram Stories as she took questions from curious fans, Beverley’s daughter Danielle Callard – who is overseeing her mum’s account -explained that soap icon is being provided with meat-free alternatives by producers.

One of Bev’s followers asked: ‘How are you eating scotch eggs if you are vegan?’

‘Beverley will be getting vegan substitutes to what the others have,’ Danielle replied.

Well that’s that, then.

It’s not just Beverley’s daughter who has jumped to the star’s defence over accusations she’s not vegan.

Presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly also cleared things up after Scotch egg-gate.

Setting the record straight on Twitter, Declan replied to a confused viewer: ‘She got a vegan one tbf. D #imacelebrity.’

Elsewhere on Beverley’s Instagram Stories, Danielle was asked why her mum had been ruled out of a trial on medical grounds.

‘We’re not 100 per cent sure why she was ruled out but I would imagine it was the crawling part of the trial because of her hip operation a few months ago,’ she answered.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
