I’m A Celebrity 2020: Emma Willis addresses pal Giovanna Fletcher’s ‘death stare’ to Vernon Kay over cooking in camp

Emma Willis has spoken about the ‘mum stare’ Giovanna Fletcher was seen giving during last night’s episode of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! when too many people tried to get involved in the kitchen.

Earlier this week, it was announced that BBC Radio 1 DJ Jordan North had been named the first leader of the I’m A Celebrity camp.

Following Jordan’s appointment as leader, he and his deputy Victoria Derbyshire set about assigning roles to the rest of their campmates, with podcaster Giovanna and Olympian Sir Mo Farah chosen as the camp chefs.

While Giovanna and Sir Mo prepared last night’s meal for the rest of the contestants, several people couldn’t help but try and give their tuppence on how they thought dinner should be done.

At one point, Giovanna was captured staring fixedly at television presenter Vernon Kay as he picked up the pan that was on the fire, a moment hilariously mocked by her husband, McFly musician Tom Fletcher, on social media.

While appearing on ITV’s Lorraine on Tuesday morning via video chat, Emma, who is a close friend of Giovanna’s, said that the stares she gave were ‘typical mum looks’ as people tried to intervene on her assigned job.

‘We saw a few little looks from her last night, and they were typical mum looks,’ Emma said.

The television presenter then imitated the kind of look Giovanna gave, much to Lorraine Kelly’s amusement.

‘But she’s not the type to explode,’ Emma added.

‘She will keep it all there, and then she’ll go to what I still call the Bush Telegraph and she’ll probably just cry, because she kind of lets it out emotionally like that.’

Several I’m A Celebrity fans absolutely loved the look Giovanna gave others in camp, with one person describing it on Twitter as a ‘death stare’.

Emma, who co-presented the spin-off series I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! NOW! in 2007 and 2008, added that it appears everyone on the show this year gets on ‘really well’.

‘There’s nobody that’s kind of rubbing anybody up the wrong way,’ she said, although she added that as soon as people were given certain roles they had to do in camp, that may have made them slightly more irritable.

‘That’s when the tiredness, the hunger, the missing home, and then being told what you have to do, that’s probably the thing that’s obviously going to start getting them,’ she said.

Emma is married to Busted musician Matt Willis, who won I’m A Celebrity in 2006.

Matt became close friends with Giovanna’s husband Tom at school, which is how Emma came to meet and become close friends with Giovanna.

Before Giovanna went into isolation ahead of her appearance ahead of I’m A Celebrity, Emma and Matt were able to see her.

Although Matt didn’t give Giovanna any ‘tips’ per se, Emma told Lorraine, he told her to try and ‘enjoy’ her experience.

As for whether Emma would ever take on the challenge of I’m A Celebrity, she stated emphatically that there’s no chance of that ever happening.

I’m A Celebrity continues tonight at 9.15pm on ITV.
