Viewers tuning into I’m A Celebrity… A Jungle Story have reacted with hilarity after finding out that former contestant Fatima Whitbread kept the cockroach that crawled up her nose during a Bushtucker Trial almost a decade ago.
On Sunday 8 November, ITV is airing a two-hour documentary looking back on the 18-year history of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, which is returning for its 20th series later this month.
Tonight’s programme features a compilation of former Bushtucker Trials, where celebrities were forced to face their greatest fears in the name of entertaining TV.
Former British javelin thrower Fatima decided to test her limits by entering the Australian jungle for the 11th series of I’m A Celebrity in 2011, ending the reality competition in third place.
In one of the most memorable moments ever in the history of the show, a cockroach ended up getting stuck up the former professional athlete’s nose, with Fatima requiring help to flush the creepy crawly out from her nostril.
While being interviewed for I’m A Celebrity… A Jungle Story, Fatima, 59, said she could ‘feel the furry little legs’ of the cockroach up her nose.
‘It was very uncomfortable and very unsettling, but at the same time I thought, well there’s no point getting upset about this,’ she said.
Fatima added, with a cheeky grin, that she named the cockroach LB, ‘cause at the time he was a little bastard’.
Viewers of the I’m A Celebrity couldn’t contain themselves after hearing Fatima decided to keep the insect, with some describing her as ‘iconic’.
‘I can NOT believe Fatima Whitbread got the cockroach WAXED and kept it,’ one person said.
‘I’m absolutely creasing that Fatima Whitbread kept the bug that crawled up her nose in resin and named it Little Bastard,’ another said.
Someone else expressed their hope that Fatima ‘carries around that cockroach trophy in her handbag’.
Earlier today, it was revealed that the upcoming series of I’m A Celebrity could be ‘in jeopardy’ after rumoured contestant AJ Pritchard reportedly tested positive for coronavirus.
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here returns to ITV on November 15.
