I’m A Celebrity fans were left fuming throughout the show’s first eating trial, as they claimed Beverley Callard got away with ‘easier options’ because she’s vegan.
It kicked off just as awful as ever, with Vernon being forced to chow down on sheep’s brains, but fans were left disappointed to see Beverley face fermented plums and fermented tofu, while her co-stars had to deal with sheep penis, goat’s eyes and cow’s tongue.
Vernon struggled to keep down a deer’s testicle, while Jordan almost vomited again when tasked with downing a bowl of fermented catfish broth.
Beverley, meanwhile, prepared for her plums and tofu with a starter of vomit fruit and, well, quite frankly, viewers at home wanted more.
‘Wtf was that #ImACeleb trial… Beverley definitely got the easier options there like being vegan,’ tweeted one viewer.
‘Beverley turning vegan is an absolute master stroke! How come nobody’s thought of it before? #ImACeleb,’ joked another fan.
‘Just say you’re vegan on #ImACeleb won’t have to eat penis & balls,’ posted one more viewer, as another said: ‘Why do i have a feeling everyone is going to be vegan on next series of #ImACeleb.’
‘What’s the point of a vegan going on I’m a celebrity, brains balls and penis and she gets fruit #ImACeleb,’ agreed another, while one fan of the show vented: ‘#ImACeleb Ridiculous cop out being a vegan in this challenge, Beverley ate some rotten plumbs, Vernon Kay had to eat deer semen.’
‘Why have a vegan do an eating trial??? She just ate normal food slightly out of date #ImACeleb,’ fumed one viewer.
While the options may sound like a better option than some of the unappetising delicacies on offer, they still proved to be a hard feat – so much so, that Vernon admitted he’d rather be eating ‘cock and balls’.
As Beverley made her way through a plate of fermented tofu, Vernon said: ‘I’ll be honest with you, the way that smells, bring on the cock and balls. That smells horrific.’
The foul-smelling plate also brought with it the best line of the series so far, as Beverley cried: ‘I’ve only been vegan since March.’
It left viewers at home in stitches, as they championed the remark as ‘iconic’.
Beverley, Vernon and Jordan made it through all of their dishes and brought home 10 stars to camp, meaning a hearty dinner for everyone.
Jordan, however, couldn’t stomach his dinner, admitting that the trial had made him ‘lose his appetite’.
I’m A Celebrity airs nightly at 9pm on ITV.
