I’m A Celebrity’s Ruthie Henshall recalled the one time she got so drunk off martinis in front of the Queen and the Royal family at Windsor Castle.
The musical theatre star, 53, previously dated Prince Edward and has spoken openly in the past of her time spent with the Royals – including that one time when she was pranked by Prince Charles.
So, naturally, when the Queen and her family popped up in conversation, Ruthie couldn’t resist sharing an hilarious anecdote of when she had slightly one too many and performed a questionable rendition of a Les Miserables track for Her Majesty.
Shane Richie had revealed he performed at Buckingham Palace over lockdown, with Ruthie cheekily revealing: ‘I sh***ed in the bedrooms.’
She told Shane that Prince Edward was a ‘lovely bloke’ who she ‘genuinely fell in love with’, as she explained that they met through Andrew Lloyd Webber when she was cast in A Star Is Born.
Ruthie revealed that Prince Edward invited her over for dinner and to watch the movie of A Star Is Born at his home aka Windsor Castle.
‘He invited me to Windsor for the weekend, as we’re walking I’m seeing a table outside and there’s people sitting round it and I’m thinking that looks like the Queen,’ Ruthie told Shane.
‘I remembered my dad had said to me that if you ever meet the Queen, you curtsy and call her ma’am. I grab her hand like this, forget all about the curtsy and I’m like, “really really pleased to meet you, really pleased to meet you.”‘
Another time at Balmoral, Ruthie revealed she had been having dinner with the Queen, Princess Diana, Princess Margaret, the Queen Mother, Prince Charles and Prince Edward.
‘I don’t remember an awful lot because Charles gave me my first martini,’ she said. ‘I’d never tried it before so I was fairly… I had two of them and I was like, “woah”.’
Ruthie explained how Princess Margaret has asked her to sing a song, so she delved into a performance of I Dreamed A Dream, joking: ‘I must have changed the key three times because I was so pissed on martinis.’
I’m A Celebrity airs nightly at 9pm on ITV.
