The musical theatre star, who previously dated Prince Edward, has spoken openly in the past of her time spent with the Royals.
During Friday night’s instalment, former soap star Shane revealed that he had performed at Buckingham Palace over lockdown, to which Ruthie cheekily replied: ‘[Russell Watson] performed at Buckingham Palace, you sang in the gardens and I s***ged in the bedrooms.’
‘Right, I am going to talk to you about that,’ Shane continued. ‘You going to tell me about Prince Edward?’
Ruth simply replied: ‘He was a lovely bloke and I genuinely fell in love with him.’
Speaking about how she met Prince Edward, the 53-year-old explained: ‘He was a production assistant at Andrew Lloyd Webber’s.
‘He then called me himself, Andrew, and said he wanted me to play the lead in A Star Is Born and Edward was my point of contact.’
Shane went on to quiz Ruthie more about spending time with the Royals, where she recalled Prince Edward inviting her to Windsor for the weekend.
‘As we’re walking I’m seeing a table outside and there’s people sitting round it and I’m thinking that looks like the Queen,’ Ruthie told Shane.
‘I remembered my dad had said to me that if you ever meet the Queen, you curtsy and call her ma’am. I grab her hand like this, forget all about the curtsy and I’m like, “really really pleased to meet you, really pleased to meet you.”‘
Another time at Balmoral, Ruthie revealed she had been having dinner with the Queen, Princess Diana, Princess Margaret, the Queen Mother, Prince Charles and Prince Edward – and she got rather drunk off martinis.
‘I don’t remember an awful lot because Charles gave me my first martini,’ she said. ‘I’d never tried it before so I was fairly… I had two of them and I was like, “woah”.’
After Ruthie and Prince Edward dated, he went on to marry Sophie Wessex.
The couple have been married for 20 years and have two children together.
