Victoria Derbyshire won nine stars for camp after putting herself forward to do a trial on tonight’s I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!.

During Sunday’s instalment, the campmates had to decide who was going to do the Bushtucker Trial, titled Critter Clink.

The journalist immediately volunteered to do the challenge as she explained that she hadn’t done a trial on her own.

Opera singer Russell Watson also put himself forward, but it was Victoria who won the vote.

Speaking ahead of Critter Clink Victoria explained: ‘It’s a trial, it’s why we’re here.  Most people who have done a trial on their own have come back with the full house – 12 stars – so that’s in my head.

‘I want to be able to do as well as they did and I don’t know if I can if I’m being really honest.  I don’t know until I get there.’

The broadcaster was greeted by hosts Ant and Dec, who explained to her what she had to do.

‘Hidden in the prison are 11 stars.  Each star is protected by a castle critter,’ Ant told her.

‘You must collect the star from the large animal protecting the prison.  Then you can retrieve the keys from the warden’s office.  Once you have these keys, you use them to open the locks in whatever order you want, then you’ll be able to retrieve the remaining stars.’

Dec added: ‘When you find a star, put it in your bag.  Only stars in your star bag at the end of the Trial will count.  There are 11 of them to find and you’ve got just 12 minutes to find them.’

As she began the trial, Victoria was met by the warden, who was holding a wolf.

The first star was attached around the wolf’s neck so Victoria was able to retrieve it with ease, although, things were about to get a lot worse.

After she found the star, the 52-year-old had to get to the warden’s office where she found a set of keys (and a cage of pigeons).

Each key was numbered, which corresponded with a number on various doors, trapdoors and barrels.

She went to the first barrel, unlocked it and unscrewed a star which was protected by millipedes.

She discovered toads as she unlocked the second barrel and unscrewed another star.

In the other barrels and trapdoors, she discovered frilled lizards, eels, crows, a Burmese python, offal, scorpions and yet again, more snakes.

When her time was up, Victoria smashed the trial and got nine stars for camp.

‘You were very slow,’ commented Ant.  ‘Methodical,’ added Dec.

To which Victoria replied: ‘I would have liked to have got 11 obviously or 10, so 9’s going to have to do.  I’m going to be a little bit proud of myself.’

‘Victoria is victorious,’ cheered Beverley Callard.  ‘She smashed it so we’re absolutely overjoyed.’

I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! airs daily at 9pm on ITV.
