I’m A Celebrity 2021 bosses ‘anger locals’ after ‘eight-feet high metal fences erected and paths at Gwrych Castle get blocked’

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! bosses have reportedly annoyed locals living close to Gwrych Castle as filming has blocked access to paths and roads in the area.

With just days to go until a new batch of campmates enter the grounds of the North Wales castle, last-minute preparations are in full swing for the series.

Ant and Dec confirmed their arrival in Abergele on Tuesday evening, leaving viewers excited ahead of Sunday night’s premiere.

However, according to The Sun, those living close to the historic location are less than thrilled about the presence of show crews causing ongoing disruption to the area.

The outlet reported an eight-foot-high metal fence has been erected around the castle, while some paths and roads have been blocked from access for those living nearby.

Earlier this year, councillor Delyth MacRae explained how locals were feeling ‘very aggrieved their enjoyment of the land has been taken away due to recent changes of ownership as well as liability and security issues’.

A Gwrych Castle spokesperson previously told the Rhyl Journal: ‘We opened the gardens to the public in 2014 and then the castle itself in 2018.

‘Prior to this, the entire estate was closed to the public so we enabled access around the restored sections of the castle. We want to have regulated public access given that the castle and grounds are under restoration.

‘The entire estate includes Manorafan Farm, Abergele Golf Club and the surrounding farmland, including the woodland which is leased to NRW and have been since 1951. We will continue to engage with interested parties.’

It’s also reported the nearby Abergele Golf Club is closed for non-members, up until December 13.

The publication claimed ITV will be compensating for any revenue lost whilst the show takes place.

A statement from the golf club said: ‘As we are neighbours to Gwyrch Castle, where I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! will be based for a second year, our course will be closed to non-members from Wednesday 10th November until Monday 13th December 2021.

‘Members will still be able to play as normal during this period, exactly like last year. The Clubhouse Bistro will still be open to serve their tasty menu during this period.’

‘We are very excited to be a part of the production again this year and look forward to watching it later on this month. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused and look forward to welcoming our guests again from Monday 13th December!’

Meanwhile, the line-up for the show was announced on Sunday night, which includes stars such as former The Saturdays member Frankie Bridge, Emmerdale’s Danny Miller and original Strictly Come Dancing judge, Arlene Phillips.

Others who will be entering the castle on Sunday night are Louise Minchin, David Ginola and music producer, Naughty Boy.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! launches Sunday at 9pm on ITV.
