Gillian McKeith has revealed the DMs she shared with I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! 2021 star Naughty Boy before he entered the castle, harking back to her own time on the show over a decade ago.
On Wednesday evening, the music producer became the latest contestant to be voted out of the competition, following on from radio presenter Snoochie Shy, Paralympic athlete Kadeena Cox and former Strictly Come Dancing judge Dame Arlene Phillips.
Naughty took part in his fair share of trials during his time in Gwrych Castle, while also sharing some heated moments with his co-stars over the cooking.
While speaking to Metro.co.uk, TV personality Gillian, who was on the series in 2010, revealed that she encouraged the DJ to take over the culinary duties when she messaged him privately on Instagram, after hearing rumours about this year’s line-up.
‘I know Naughty Boy, we follow each other on Instagram, so I spoke to him – I didn’t speak to him verbally – but I spoke to him via text on Instagram just before he went in because I heard that he was going in,’ she said.
‘I couldn’t believe it, I couldn’t believe he was going to do it. I said, “Is this true? Is this true, all this gossip?” He said, “Yeah, it’s definitely true.”’
Aware of Naughty’s talents in the kitchen, Gillian recalled: ‘I said, “Well if anything, you can be the cook,” because he actually is a very good cook and so I said, “Why don’t you take on that role?”’
The writer also gave him a word of warning, telling him: ‘I hope you know what you’re letting yourself in for!’
The 62-year-old explained that she was ‘shocked’ when she found out he was going to join the show, as she had the impression that he was a ‘real homebody’.
At the start of this year’s series, Naughty confessed that he had snuck some seasoning into the castle in his sock in the hope of sprucing up the meals in camp.
However, Gillian managed to not only smuggle herbs into the jungle, but also add them to the meals by hiding them in her knickers before she was found out.
While speaking to Metro.co.uk, the former You Are What You Eat presenter also looked back on the unforgettable moment when she fainted after finding out that she’d been voted to take part in yet another trial while in the jungle.
She said that she ‘doesn’t care’ if people think the faint was fake, as she has a ‘medical history of fainting’.
Gillian explained that she expressed concern that morning that she didn’t feel well, stating that she thought that she shouldn’t join the rest of her castmates at the trial.
‘I felt so exhausted, so weak, cold because of the night before not sleeping. I didn’t feel good, I felt really dizzy and very, very light-headed anyway,’ she said.
I’m A Celebrity returns tomorrow at 9pm on ITV.
