I’m A Celebrity contestants warned not to harm protected bats flying around Gwrych Castle

My Celebrity Life – Gwrych Castle

The I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! stars and crew have been warned not to harm the bats flying around at Gwrych Castle.

The ITV series – which is hosted by Ant and Dec – will be filmed at the castle in Abergele, Wales for the second year running rather than its usual camp Down Under in Australia due to the pandemic.

It turns out the building is home to three species of protected bats that fly around the ruins and woodlands that surround the castle.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Sian Williams – Natural Resources Wales head of operations – said: ‘In the months ahead of filming I’m A Celebrity we have been advising ITV in relation to protecting bats as both the notified feature of the adjacent Llanddulas Limestone and Gwrych Castle Wood Site of Special Scientific Interest and as a European protected species.’

Species of protected bats that roam around the castle include the lesser horseshoe bat, the brown long-eared bat, and the soprano pipistrelle.

A spokesman for the show added: ‘As a production we work with all the relevant authorities to ensure we adhere to all necessary regulations.’

Just like last year, ITV bosses will be sticking to strict health and safety protocols to ensure the cast and crew are protected as best they can be as the Covid pandemic continues.

A spokesperson confirmed to Metro.co.uk that the celebrities will quarantine for a fortnight with regular testing prior to heading into the castle.

They will then form a bubble for the duration of their time on the show.

It was recently reported that Love Island star Maura has a high chance of being enlisted on the show after her split from Strictly Come Dancing professional Giovanni Pernice.

The latest odds from Ladbrokes bookies claim that the model and TV presenter has 7/2 odds of joining in with the shenanigans of gruesome eating challenges, fireside meals and terrifying trials.

Other names that have cropped up as possible participants of the show include Little Mix singer Jade Thirlwall, former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan and Olympic gold medal winner Tom Daley.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! returns on ITV later this year.
