I’m A Celebrity executives are allegedly on ‘high alert’ as a category three hurricane threatens Australia.
Cyclone Jasper is presently making its way towards Queensland, the state where the ITV show’s jungle is set, and is expected to make landfall next week.
Forecasters anticipate the tropical storm will strengthen to category five, the maximum rating, by Thursday, bringing hurricane-force winds and torrential rain.
I’m A Celebrity producers are reportedly’monitoring the situation’ and may have to change the structure of the show since ‘the safety of the celebrities is of the highest priority to ITV.’
Annual Obstacle Celebrity Cyclone, in which the last four stars face a massive slip-and-slide, might be cancelled to safeguard the campmates’ safety if the storm ‘wreaks havoc.’
The Bushtucker Trial is scheduled for Saturday’s event, just days before Cyclone Jasper is expected to hit Australia.
A source told The Sun: ‘This year the celebs have had to endure pretty horrible weather and just as the sun started to shine, it’s all going south again.’
‘ITV are ready for any eventuality but, ultimately, Cyclone Jasper could be an absolute nightmare and wreak havoc. The team are watching and waiting with bated breath.’
This year’s I’m A Celebrity has been beset by weather challenges, which, among other things, created ideal circumstances for blood-sucking leeches to thrive.
The pararsites reportedly targeted MIC’s Sam Thompson, 31, and Hollyoaks star Nick Pickard, 48, in a surprise attack.
As a result, producers have been compelled to advise celebrities to be extra cautious around uninvited guests because their blood-zapping might deplete their limited energy reserves.
This isn’t the only animal invasion the celebs have had to deal with this year, as dangerous snakes have also descended on the rainforest owing to the ‘humid’ weather in Australia.
The programme’s Health and Safety Officer Jeremy Douglas said: ‘We have had a lot of snakes on the site this year, possibly because it has been so humid.’
Jeremy continued to The Sun: ‘We have had pythons and non-venomous and venomous species.
‘You get small-eyed snakes and brown tree snakes predominantly.’
Laura Woolf, executive producer, also confirmed 15 snake sightings.
Sam, Nick, Danielle Harold from EastEnders, Josie Gibson from This Morning, former UKIP leader Nigel Farage, JLS star Marvin Humes, and boxer Tony Bellew are still in the jungle.
I’m A Celebrity continues tonight at 9pm on ITV and ITVX.
