I’m a Star… I need to get out of here! Frankie Dettori, a latecomer, is claimed to have been insured for an astounding £100 million in case of accident.
This year’s series on ITV featured the famous jockey with former professional boxer Tony Bellew as the two new stars, joining Sam Thompson, Nella Rose, Jamie Lynn Spears, and Nigel Farage.
While Frankie, 52, jumped right into the gruesome Bushtucker Trials, hosted by Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnely, he was supposedly extra cautious with his insurance coverage before formally signing up.
According to reports, the athlete’s personal insurance cover is already worth £50 million, but he refused to go on I’m A Celebrity until the show purchased two additional policies.
A source told The Mirror: ‘Frankie can earn huge sums by winning races in this country and the prize money is even higher abroad.
‘But even a very small injury in the jungle, such as a damaged finger, could leave him unable to compete. He wants to throw himself into all of the trials that jungle bosses throw at him – he won’t be holding back while he’s in the camp.
‘But he’s also sensible of what an injury could mean for his career and future earnings, and wanted that taken into account in his deal.’
According to the magazine, Frankie might have earned a charge of up to £1 million to join the jungle, which is one-third less than the former Ukip leader’s claimed £1.5 million.
The insider claimed that the jockey is ‘adamant’ about undertaking the Bushtucker Trials on I’m A Celebrity, recognising that he’s a ‘highly competitive person’.
They outlined how he wants to ‘push himself out of his comfort zone and past his fears’, but the insurance policy that he has is of great importance.
They added that while he ‘has faith in ITV’s exhaustive safety procedures’, he also wants to feel secure himself that he’s covered, just in case.
Nella and Sam will take part in an underwater challenge on Sunday night’s episode, which will put their athleticism, intellect, and nerve to the test.
I’m A Celebrity returns tonight at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
