Former EastEnders star Jessica Plummer is hoping to make her mark in the I’m A Celebrity camp , as one of 10 famous faces to be braving the wilds of Wales for this year’s series.
Sunday night’s opening instalment saw the 28-year-old actress getting emotional over missing her daughter while she is away on the show – but she also blew viewers’ minds by talking about her pop past.
Because while she may be well-known now as EastEnders’ Chantelle Atkins – who recently met a tragic end at the hands of her evil husband Gray (Toby-Alexander Smith), she previously found fame with the girl group Neon Jungle.
Just who were the band, who were the other members – and what were their biggest hits?
Who were Neon Jungle?
Neon Jungle were a four-piece girl band consisting of Jessica, Shereen Cutkelvin, Amira McCarthy and Asami Zdrenka.
The band were formed in 2013 by music manager David Cooper, and were signed to RCA Records – taking their band name from their song Welcome To The Jungle, with the ‘neon’ part highlighting their individuality.
Jessica explained: ‘It’s like neon is bold, bright, strong individual characters and then the jungle part is the madness.’
The band remained together for two years until their record contract was terminated, having released five singles and one album in that time.
Band member Shereen later appeared on the 2017 series of The X Factor with new band The Cutkelvins – featuring her siblings Jay and Kyle – going on to finish in fifth place.
What were Neon Jungle’s best-known songs?
The band is probably best remembered for hits including Braveheart, which reached number four in 2014, and Welcome To The Jungle, which hit number seven in that same year.
They also had two top 20 hits – debut single Trouble, which peaked at number 12, and Louder, which reached number 14.
They also released one album, Welcome To The Jungle, which got to number eight in the UK album charts.
How old is Jessica’s daughter?
Jessica’s daughter Noa is four years old.
The actress announced in 2016 that she and her boyfriend were expecting their first child, saying at the time: ‘Couldn’t be happier to be starting a family with my childhood sweetheart.’
However, it’s been reported recently that their relationship has ended, with sources telling The Sun at the time: ‘They haven’t been together in a long time – but they still see each other and co-parent.
‘Their daughter is the most important thing and they always put her first.’
Jessica fought back tears as she told her fellow campmates on Sunday night’s sh what she had told Noa before she left for Wales.
‘I said to my daughter before we left each other that if she misses me when she’s at home, if she looks for the moon, I can look at the moon and we can both see it,’ she wept.
