I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! 2020 star Ruthie Henshall has had her fair share of frights in her past, having once been pranked by Prince Charles and Prince Edward.

During Wednesday evening’s episode of I’m A Celebrity on ITV, the 10 contestants already settled in Gwrych Castle in Wales will welcome musical theatre star Ruthie and tenor Russell Watson into the fold.

Ahead of her debut on the show, Ruthie revealed that she was once the victim of a practical joke played on her by the heir apparent, the Prince of Wales, and his younger brother, Prince Edward.

In 2008, Ruthie revealed during an appearance on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs that she and Prince Edward dated ‘solidly for a couple of years’, but were romantically involved ‘on and off’ for around five years.

The royal brothers tricked Ruthie during a ‘cook-out’ when they told her that the place they were hanging out in was ‘haunted’, she recollected.

‘I got jumped out on by Prince Charles and Prince Edward when I was having a cook-out with them!’ Ruthie, 53, recalled.

‘They told me there were ghosts in this particular place and when I went to the toilet with a candle because there was no electricity, they waited for me to come out and then jumped out on me!’

While the experience may have helped prepare her for I’m A Celeb in a small way, we imagine the challenges she has waiting for her in Wales are going to be far more frightening.

Some I’m A Celeb fans have speculated that the contestants already in Gwrych Castle were aware they were going to be joined by late arrivals Ruthie and Russell.

During Tuesday night’s episode, former Eastenders star Shane Richie could be heard repeatedly saying ‘R and R’.

Although there has been no confirmation that this was in reference to Ruthie and Russell, some viewers seem to think it might have been.

‘Does Shane know who’s joining? Cos he said “R and R…Stage Fright” And it’s Ruthie and Russell!’ one person said.

Ant and Dec trying to claim the celebs don’t know about the new campmates yet Shane’s shouting R&R and Victoria says so they will be doing it,’ another remarked.

Either way, the celebrities by definitely be aware by tonight’s episode as they witness Ruthie being covered in rotten tomatoes.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
