Insecure season 5 is finally upon us and it could possibly see the Molly and Taurean romance we’ve all lowkey predicted for some time now.
The final season of Issa Rae’s HBO comedy series debuted in the US on Sunday, as the escapades of Issa, Molly, Lawrence and the gang sadly draw to a close.
We’ll find out if Issa and Lawrence can get past him having an unexpected baby with Condola, or if she’ll throw us a curveball and choose Nathan after all.
However, another burning question is: Will Molly (Yvonne Orji) and Taurean (Leonard Robinson) finally hook up?
Tensions between the two lawyers have been sizzling since season 3, when Taurean was first introduced as Molly’s uptight – and perhaps slightly misogynistic – colleague at the law firm.
In season 4, we saw the frostiness between them thaw a little leaving us all to suspect that the tension was actually sexual in nature after all.
Metro.co.uk spoke to the man himself, actor Leonard Robinson who plays the mansplaining Taurean to get the – spoiler-free – lowdown on Molly’s possible new man.
When asked if the legal eagles are an ideal match, the TV star replied coyly: ‘Do you really know who is the match for you? Would you recognise that if you saw that in real life? I think most people would not know what that is.
‘These characters are interesting because they have two different lives like a lot of people do, you have your work persona and out of work persona, and I think people are best suited when you find the match that is encouraging you and supportive of you, and understands you and at the same time challenges you and pushes you to be something more, and helps bring out the best of you.’
He then teased: ‘So that being said… maybe?’
Season 4 was particularly rough for Molly as she saw most of her key relationships crumbling around her, notably with bestie Issa, as well as troubles in her relationship with boyfriend Andrew.
However, Leonard highlights an important moment that could be game-changing for Molly and Taurean.
He explained: ‘Season 4 where I confront her in her office and say, “I don’t need to be your friend, just tell me the truth, just be upfront here, we need to be professional”.
‘That becomes the turning point in that relationship right there because that’s when Taurean finally gets some clarity on that. You see Yvonne’s character come to that realisation in the office, but that also permeates in her personal life where she’s like I’ve been wrong in some areas and not my best person always but I’m willing and ready to change.’
Insecure season 5 debuts in the UK on Sky Comedy tomorrow at 9pm.
