Inside No. 9 announces all-star cast for sixth series as filming wraps

Inside No. 9 has revealed its all-star cast for series six.

Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton have confirmed that filming has wrapped on the sixth series of their dark comedy anthology, after they were forced to suspend filming last year due to the pandemic.

However, it sounds like it will be worth the wait, as some of the UK’s biggest TV stars have signed up for the new series.

Sian Clifford, best known for playing Claire in Fleabag, has joined the show, alongside Line of Duty star Adrian Dunbar.

Peep Show star Patterson Joseph, Black Mirror’s Lindsay Duncan (A Discovery Of Witches, Kevin Bishop of Porridge fame, Intelligence star Nick Mohammed, W1A’s Sarah Parish and Game Of Thrones star Gemma Whelan have also been confirmed, with more names set to be announced.

Sir Derek Jacobi becomes the first actor to return to Inside No. 9, after providing the voice of Dennis Fulcher in the series three episode, The Devil Of Christmas.

Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton said: ‘We started filming in March last year but had to hit pause due to the pandemic. After a nine-month gestation it’s a relief to finally deliver our sixth series to the world.

‘As proud parents we couldn’t possibly choose a favourite, but like any youngest sibling this series is cheeky, funny – and can get away with murder.’

Shane Allen, Controller, BBC Comedy Commissioning, said: ‘Reece and Steve plough yet more fertile genre comedy talent to these modern masterpieces.’

Josh Cole, Head of Comedy, BBC Studios Production, added: ‘We’re delighted to have concluded filming the sixth season of Inside No. 9. It’s a unique series we could not be prouder of, and we are in awe of Reece and Steve’s extraordinary ability to continually raise the bar. Long live Inside No. 9!’

Inside No. 9 began back in 2014 and features a brand new story every episode – from burglars breaking into a house, to a betting drama breaking out in a football changing room, to a group of strangers attending a private art exhibition.

Each episode – which is related to a number nine in some way – usually involves a plot twist, and plenty of big names have appeared on the show, including Sheridan Smith, Gemma Arterton, David Morrissey and Jenna Coleman.

Series five surprised fans of Shearsmith and Pemberton by pulling off a massive Psychoville crossover with the episode Death Be Not Proud, re-introducing the characters of Maureen and David Sowerbutts.

The show also pulled off a major Halloween stunt with the 2018 special Dead Line, which was compared to the infamous 1992 Ghostwatch.

Inside No. 9 returns to BBC Two and BBC iPlayer later this year.
