Is Dancing on Ice finalist Faye Brookes returning to Coronation Street?

Faye Brookes left Coronation Street in 2019 and is now dominating on Dancing On Ice, sailing through to tonight’s finale.

But while she has now been announced to star in musical Chicago, Corrie fans are still keen to know what happened to her character, Kate Connor, and if she’ll ever make her way back to the Greater Manchester soap.

Faye has since spoken out about Kate’s fate, and teased a possible future return.

But what happened to Kate in the first place to make her leave, and what is Faye saying about her grand return?

Here’s what you need to know.

What happened to Faye Brookes’ character on Corrie?

Kate arrived on the Street in 2015 with a bone to pick with her brother Aidan, after he’d stolen inheritance from her.

Engaged to Caz Hammond, the pair split when her other half got jealous of her close bond with Sophie Webster.

Her most notable storyline came in 2017, when she started a romance with Rana Zadir.

At the time, Rana was married to Zeedan and due to religion was hesitant to come out. Zeedan later used this to his advantage in order to try and stay with her.

When they finally came out publicly, they got engaged in 2019 and seemed destined to have their happy ending.

But in a heartbreaking twist, Rana was killed when the roof of the factory collapsed with her inside the building.

Sharing their vows as Rana died in her arms, Kate was left heartbroken.

Shortly after this, Kate decided to go travelling with Imogen Pascoe, with her future left uncertain.

Will Kate Connor return to Coronation Street?

Faye has said that she is up for returning to the life of Kate at some point in the future – though it’s unclear when that will be.

She told OK! Magazine: ‘My journey at Corrie was open-ended, so that’s possibly something I could go back to and if there was an opportunity, I would. Who knows what the future holds!’

She added: ‘Cannot put into words how I felt filming my last few episodes as Kate Connor. But all I can say is that there was a lot of love in the room that day.

‘It’s always sad to say goodbye, but when a chapter ends another story begins and I’m so excited about what’s to come.’

Ahead of the DOI finale, she was announced to be starring as Roxie Hart – the adulterer trying to get away with murder – in Chicago.

She will star alongside Drag Race’s Divina De Campo as Mary Sunshine and Sinitta as Matron ‘Mama’ Morton.

So sorry folks, it doesn’t look like it’ll be any time soon.

When is the Dancing On Ice finale?

Kate will be heading into the Dancing On Ice finale tonight at 6pm on ITV.

She’s up against radio DJ Sonny Jay and sportsman Colin Jackson.

All three will have to perform up to three routines – starting with a skate of the series and a showdance.

The final two will end with their own take on Torvill and Dean’s iconic Bolero, with the winner of the public vote being crowned shortly after.

Dancing On Ice is available from 6pm on ITV.
