My Celebrity Life –

Ant and Dec are heading for Wales this time (Picture: ITV)

I’m A Celebrity returns to screens tonight, with a special show ahead of the news series starting next weekend – and this year it’s set to look very different indeed.

Because while some elements of the show – famous faces having to get to grips with camp life, undertaking grim Bushtucker trials under Ant and Dec’s watchful eye – will be the same as ever, this year the show has swapped Australia for Wales in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Yup, it’ll be a colder, damper experience for the campers this year in the ruins of Gwrych Castle in Abergele – but will the firebreaker lockdown currently in effect in Wales impact upon the show?

Here’s what you need to know…

Is I’m A Celebrity impacted by Wales’ firebreaker lockdown?

While the pandemic has already made its mark on I’m A Celebrity 2020, the good news is that the firebreaker lockdown in Wales will not stop the show from making its way on to our screens.

Although the lockdown is due to end on November 9 – a week before the series proper kicks off – work on the show has been able to continue under the current rules.

The lockdown measures have asked people to work from home if they can, but have also stated people are allowed to go to work if they are unable to work from home but ‘can work safely in their workplaces’, as long as those places of work are allowed to remain open.

And film and TV production has been allowed to continue in Wales as long as Covid-safe guidelines are adhered to.

Gwrych Castle confirmed the news also in a tweet last month, saying: ‘Following the announcement today from the First Minister, the overriding message is that filming CAN continue in Wales providing related activity cannot be undertaken from home, and there is full compliance with Welsh law.

‘We cannot wait to see I’m A Celebrity on our screens!’

Meanwhile, ITV also confirmed that work on the show would continue in spite of the lockdown, saying in a statement: ‘I’m A Celebrity continues to adhere to all relevant guidelines as well as our own strict Covid protocols.

When does I’m A Celebrity 2020 begin?

The series begins with a special curtain-raiser tonight, I’m A Celebrity – A Jungle Story – which sees Ant and Dec looking back on the first 19 series of the show as well as undertaking their first ever Bushtucker Trial.

We’ll be joining this year’s line-up of celebrities in camp for the first time next Sunday, November 15.
