BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker has sparked debate over whether it is too early to put up Christmas decorations.

It’s never too early Dan!

The presenter discussed the controversial topic during Wednesday’s episode with co-host Louise Minchin, who is all for whacking up the Christmas tree now.

‘This is my favourite subject of today. With weeks of restrictions still to come, the thought of Christmas is keeping some like me going,’ Louise began.

‘The festive fun has started earlier than normal, they’ve broken out the lights, the tinsel and seven weeks before Christmas Day they have gone for it,’ Dan chipped in.

‘You know you’ve been telling me that I am a bit of a grouch,’ he said to Louise.

‘Rachel Burden, our BBC colleague from 5 live – so I said somebody who has put their Christmas decorations up on the 31st October have gone too early.

‘She says there’s actually evidence that early decorations can make you feel better about life, which is what we need at the moment.’

‘See Rachel Burden, well done you,’ Louise praised.

‘I am just worried about the Christmas fatigue kicking in,’ Dan added.

‘I don’t think you can get Christmas fatigue,’ his co-host continued.

BBC Breakfast viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts – and many even posted snaps of their own Christmas decorations.

One viewer tweeted: ‘Normally I’d say not until at least 1st December but after the year we’ve all had then go for it!’

While another added: ‘I put mine up last week. They just make me smile every time I walk past.’

One commented: ‘Not in 2020!!!! We need CHRISTMAS cheer!!!’

Other viewers did agree with Dan, with many suggesting it was far too early to put up any festive decorations.

‘I agree with Dan, while I agree we all need something to cheer us up, 6 weeks before Christmas is too much,’ one fan tweeted.

Another said: ‘I agree with you Dan, I think putting them up now is a bit too early.’

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
