Kaley Cuoco has spoken about her time filming the Big Bang Theory, revealing that some guest stars struggled to film in front of a live audience.
A huge number of celebs made cameos on the show over the years – Charlie Sheen, George Takei, Stan Lee, Bill Gates, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Elon Musk, Buzz Aldrin, Billy Bob Thornton, Stephen Hawking, James Earl Jones, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher to list just a few.
But it sounds like some of them didn’t have the easiest of times on the hugely popular comedy, with a number struggling with the intensity of filming.
Speaking to Elisabeth Olsen in Actors on Actors interview for Variety, Kaley asked Elisabeth if she’d ever acted in a sitcom before the genre-bending MCU series WandaVision.
After Elisabeth said that she hadn’t and admitted that she found filming in front of fans daunting, Kaley said that some Big Bang Theory guest stars – without naming any names – also had the same issue.
‘Obviously, my whole life is sitcom,’ Kaley said. ‘Especially with Big Bang, ‘cos the cast was like (go go go go go), there was no gap.’
She added: ‘We’d have these guest stars come on, and some of them were wonderful dramatic actors or whatever, and they would feel so lost for a while. It really is so musical, and you find if you’re one second (out) it can mess up a whole thing.’
Kaley went on to say: ‘Because I grew up with it, and I did it for so long, it’s been so natural for me. But I started to see, “This is hard for some people, to find their footing with the audience”. It’s very different if you haven’t done it.’

During the same interview, Kaley said she would have been ‘fine’ being known as Penny from The Big Bang Theory ‘forever’.
Kaley starred as actor-turned-pharmaceuticals rep Penny in 12 seasons of the hit TV show, which revolved around a group of Caltech scientists in various fields, including theoretical physics.
The show finished in 2019, bowing out after 12 seasons, with Kaley, Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Mayim Bialik, Kunal Nayyar, Simon Helberg and Melissa Rauch bidding farewell to their beloved characters. By 2014, Kaley and the main cast were already earning $1million (£707,000) per episode.
The show might not be over just yet though. Kaley recently has revealed that she would ‘definitely be open’ to a reunion.
All episodes of The Big Bang Theory are available to stream on Netflix now.
