ITN Productions has apologised for ‘mistakenly conducting’ filming with Melanie Sykes without taking coronavirus regulations into account.

Melanie was spotted in Italy during the second lockdown, as she shared photos on her Instagram, and appeared not to self-isolate afterwards.

ITN Productions told Metro.co.uk in a statement: ‘Filming with Melanie Sykes was mistakenly conducted without taking into account the Covid protocols necessary after travel.

‘It was filmed with the camera crew and producer at a remote location and there was no deliberate attempt to break any rules.

‘We apologise for the error and have reminded our teams of all Covid protocols. The safety of staff, contributors and the public remain paramount.’

Presenter Melanie has been sharing a number of photos from her trip to Italy, including a final one on November 22. Just days later, she shared a photo of herself in Mayfair, London.

In one post, the 50-year-old clarified that some of the snaps from Italy had been taken on November 18, seemingly ruling out them being throwback photos, as she wrote: ‘Just wanted to say good evening and share some beautiful pics of Venice from a week ago.’

Since November 5, England has been in lockdown, with it being announced that people shouldn’t travel in the UK or overseas ‘unless for work, education or other legally permitted reasons.’

Travellers returning from Italy must self-isolate for two weeks.

In October, before the lockdown, Melanie also jetted off to Italy, enjoying a close bond with gondolier Riccardo Simionato, 23.

In photos obtained by the Mail Online, Melanie was seen draping her arm around Riccardo as they shared passionate kisses in the street. They were so enamoured with each other that they went on to spend the rest of the week together and were later pictured sharing laughs and embracing in Campo San Toma Square.

However, she wasn’t bothered by their dalliance becoming public knowledge as she shared a photo of herself laughing during one of her encounters with Riccardo and told her Instagram followers: ‘Morning strumpets ❤️💫 I knew I was being stalked on my holiday but I managed to ignore it , partly because It’s just what happens but mostly because I was experiencing so much joy, it was difficult to actually care 💃🏼💫.

‘May you also recognise, appreciate and take those happy moments in this crazy world ❤️ love Melanie x #livethatlife.’
