Off the back of It’s A Sin’s monumental success, Lydia West has landed a role in a star-studded drama alongside Doctor Who’s David Tennant and Spotlight star Stanley Tucci.
When Russell T Davies’ series It’s A Sin was released earlier this year, telling the stories of a group of young gay men and their friends in 1980s London at the time of the Aids crisis, Lydia delivered a standout performance as Jill Baxter.
Having previously starred in Russell’s BBC show Years and Years, Lydia, 27, has an exciting new project in the pipeline, which has only just been announced.
Inside Man, a four-part mini series for BBC One and Netflix, follows several characters whose lives appear totally distinct from one another – but who find that their paths cross unexpectedly.
These individuals include a prisoner on death row in America, a vicar living in an English town and a maths teacher who is somehow trapped in a cellar.
Coming from creator and writer Steven Moffat and executive produced by his wife Sue Vertue, executive producer for Hartswood Films, the series will star Lydia, David, Stanley and Good Posture director Dolly Wells.

Steven and Sue admitted that they’re astonished by the actors that they’ve managed to cast in the drama.
‘We’re a bit stunned, and very excited, at the acting talent we’re managing to assemble for this show,’ the couple said.
‘Can’t wait to crawl out of our lockdown bunker and get to work.’
Lydia celebrated the announcement of the series on Instagram, sharing a screenshot of an article regarding the news alongside a caption that read: ‘This! Team!’
Piers Wenger, director of BBC Drama, said that viewers will be guaranteed ‘television magic’ with this combination of actors working alongside writer Steven.

‘BBC One viewers will already know the television magic created when Steven Moffat writes for David, Dolly and Lydia,’ he said.
‘With the fantastic Stanley Tucci alongside them as our Inside Man, everything is in place for a series that will have the nation gripped.’
Chris Sussman, from UK Original Series at Netflix, remarked that it’s ‘impossible to say too much about Inside Man without giving away spoilers’.
‘So let’s just say the scripts are fiendishly clever, the cast is fantastic and at this point in time nobody but Steven knows how it’s going to end,’ he added.
Caroline Stone, director of Independent Drama at BBC Studios, teased that Inside Man is ‘set to be an unmissable drama with a hugely talented line-up both on and off screen’.
Filming for Inside Man is due to take place later this year.
