Jackie Weaver, the clerk who ran the Handforth Parish Council meeting that’s gone viral, has been confirmed as a guest on tonight’s episode of The Last Leg.
Last night, the parish council meeting caused a stir online as millions of people watched Jackie attempt to stay composed during an increasingly heated Zoom chat.
After chair Brian Tolver told Jackie to ‘stop talking’, saying ‘you have no authority here’, she decided to take action by removing him from the call and placing him in a virtual waiting room.
This sparked anger from vice chair Aled Brewerton, who shouted at her to ‘read the standing orders’.
Jackie has quickly become an online sensation, with Richard Osman saying that he wants to write her into his next book.
And tonight, she will be making an appearance on late-night talk show The Last Leg, prompting presenter Adam Hills to express his excitement.
‘Jackie Weaver has just been confirmed as a Zoom Guest on @TheLastLeg tonight. This is not a joke. She’s genuinely gonna be on the show,’ he tweeted.
Fellow Last Leg presenter Josh Widdicombe described Jackie as ‘amazing’ saying that she is the ‘woman of the moment’.
‘I’m looking forward to Jackie kicking Adam out of the meeting and taking over as the host,’ one fan wrote in response to the news.
‘She has no authority here!!’ another Twitter user jokingly said.
This morning, Jackie appeared on Woman’s Hour where she spoke about what went down during the meeting.
‘99.99% of council meetings are just not like that, they are often less exciting than we might hope they were,’ she told BBC Radio 4.
‘Although this has a positive spin for it – most of the time I’m trying to get people to get involved in parish councils. The plus side of this is it’s certainly done that.
‘I have had nothing but really lovely positive support from people – who of course condemn the behaviour, no one could not condemn the behaviour.’
The Last Leg airs tonight at 10pm on Channel 4.
