Strictly Come Dancing’s Jacqui Smith has revealed she is not worried about the show’s curse.

Over the years, the competition has seen a number of relationships blossom between the celebrities and their professional partners.

These have including the likes of YouTuber Joe Sugg and his dancing guru Dianne Buswell; soap star Gemma Atkinson and her now baby daddy Gorka Marquez; as well as presenter Stacey Dooley and her beau Kevin Clifton.

However, the former Home Secretary is adamant nothing will happen between herself and her partner Anton du Beke.

When chatting to The Guardian, she opened up on her new pairing and how she’s excited to start the Strictly process.

‘I won’t have it said that Anton is not gorgeous,’ she told the publication. ‘But he is happily married and I am in a newish, but lovely, relationship.

‘Trust us, there will be no Strictly curse.’ That settles that then.

The former politician has previously spoken about her journey so far on the show, and confessed that her body has already taken a battering.

‘I’m having the time of my life, it is absolutely brilliant,’ she said during a recent instalment of Good Morning Britain.

‘The main use of alcohol as far as I’m concerned at the moment is rubbing it into my aching feet because my poor old body is taking a battering.’

The star went on: ‘But I have to say, even the youngsters on the show are also physically suffering, so it’s not just us oldies who are under the cosh.

‘But we are all absolutely loving it and I think, for all of the reasons we talked about, a bit of sparkle and a bit of dance is what the country needs now.’

Jacqui will be joining the likes of singer HRVY, comedian Bill Bailey, actress Caroline Quentin and The Wanted’s Max George.

As it stands, EastEnders actress Maisie Smith is the current favourite to win – however, head judge Shirley Ballas has warned her not to get too cocky so early on in the competition.

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday on BBC One.
