James Corden has had some fairly big names get in his vehicle for the famous Carpool Karaoke – Adele, Stevie Wonder, Celine Dion, and even Paul McCartney to mention a few – but he is missing one huge name.
Despite filming 67 iterations of the piece for The Late Late Show, James never secured his ideal guest Paul Simon to join him in his car for a singsong and interview.
James, 44, has now spoken of his adoration for Paul, 81, and his personal connection to him.
‘I think he’s one of the greatest of all time. My fondest memories of singing in a car was we’d go on these 15-hour drives to France, because we couldn’t afford to fly.’
James is particularly fond of Graceland and had hoped to incorporate his family in his ultimate carpool karaoke.
‘My greatest memories of our family vacations are all of us singing along to Graceland in the car,’ he told Variety.
‘I had this idea of, what if I get my sisters to come out and be in it. My parents could be in it too. I always thought that would have been fun.’
Carpool Karaoke fans may be in luck, as James has not ruled out bringing it back in the future.
When asked if he would do an Apple TV+ spin-off, or a one-off CBS special he said ‘maybe’.
However, he noted that he will prioritise his family for the time being as they relocate from California to the United Kingdom.
James and Julia Carey, 43, have three children – Max, 12, Carey, 8, and Charlotte, 5 – who now rely on him.
‘I’m so conscious of the fact that we’re going to move these three small people back to a completely different city, one that they don’t know that well with new schools, new friends, all those things.
‘I just feel like the most important thing I have to focus on is just being there.’
In a novel spin on the popular genre, James taped his final carpool karaoke with close friend Adele, who drove him to work.
James reflected on his ‘wild’ eight years on the programme, while Adele, 34, said she was’very, very sorry’ to see him go, having never lived in LA without him.

She also claimed that the opening stanza of I Drink Wine was inspired by a serious discussion amongst close friends.
‘It was everything that I was feeling that day,’ James told Adele.
‘I was floored by how you’d managed to take everything that I was feeling about myself and life and just put it in a verse and it’s the greatest privilege that something from a conversation so honest, between two friends, that you created such a thing.’
The Late Late Show with James Corden continues its final week on CBS.
