While Jennifer Aniston made it perfectly clear she has zero interest in the Super Bowl, she still marked the night with an iconic throwback to what could well be the best Friends episode of all time.
The Rachel Green star shared a meme on her Instagram stories on Sunday, joking that it’s coming to that time ‘to be vaguely aware that it’s Super Bowl weekend’.
But taking her 36 million Instagram followers way back to her American Football days, the 51-year-old followed with a clip from ‘The One With The Football’ – aka when Friends peaked and Ross and Monica shed blood, sweat and tears for the Geller Cup.
Tagging her Friends cast mates Matt LeBLanc, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, and Matthew Perry, the Insta story showed Rachel’s frantic panic as she catches the ball and is literally chased out of the park by Ross, Joey and Chandler.
While Jennifer couldn’t have cared less about Super Bowl weekend – which saw The Weeknd become a meme king and Miley Cyrus break down in tears – the moment when Friends and Super Bowl came together to become an unstoppable force of nature in the TV ratings turned 25 years old this month.
The One After The Super Bowl was a colossal moment for the sitcom, which just after one series was picked to follow the Dallas Cowboys beating the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1996 for a special episode.
More than 60 million viewers watched the instalment in the US alone, with the likes of Julia Roberts, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Brooke Shields making cameos.
Writers behind the episode recently revealed to Hollywood Reporter how they got Matthew to convince Pretty Women star Julia to sign up for the part, and her bizarre request for the actor.
Friends is available to stream on Netflix UK and plays pretty much on loop all day on Comedy Central.Credit: Original article published here.
