Jennifer Aniston consoles Matthew Perry as he bursts into tears during Friends The Reunion trailer: ‘I’m going to cry now’

The Friends: The Reunion trailer promises an episode perhaps more emotional than fans of the long-running series were expecting with Jennifer Aniston seen consoling a sombre looking Matthew Perry before he begins to cry.

It’s been 17 years since Rachel got off the plane, and for the very first time all six Friends stars – Jennifer, Matthew, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBLanc, and David Schwimmer – will appear on screen together for the upcoming HBO Max special released on May 27.

And the first trailer from the reunion landed last night, with the cast recreating an iconic scene from the sitcom, and finally settling one of life’s greatest mysteries: were Ross and Rachel on a break?

But in one of the more touching moments in the trailer, Jennifer is seen comforting a visibly emotional Matthew.

His voice quivering, Matthew said: ‘I’m going to cry now,’ and the Rachel Greene star puts her hand on his shoulder.

The Friends Reunion will be hosted by James Corden and feature a slew of celebrity guests including David Beckham, Kit Harington, Lady Gaga and, of course, Maggie Wheeler – aka Janice.

However, the guest list has come under fire for lacking any Black stars – particularly when the reunion could have been a chance to rectify the sitcom’s notoriously poor diversity.

Friends fans were also stunned to see Paul Rudd missing from the line-up when his character Mike, who married Phoebe, became one of the main cast members.

The Friends Reunion airs on May 27 on HBO Max. A UK release date has not yet been announced.
