Jeopardy! fans were given a heartwarming surprise this Thanksgiving after a special message from late host Alex Trebek was released online.
Viewers have been mourning the loss of the iconic presenter who died on November 8, following a battle with stage four pancreatic cancer.
The official Twitter page for the game show revealed the video message along with a caption which read: ‘High on our list of things to be thankful for this year: Alex’s Thanksgiving message from today’s show. We hope you have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!’
In the special clip, the late Alex said: ‘You know, in spite of what America and the rest of the world is experiencing right now, there are many reasons to be thankful.’
He added: ‘There are more people extending helpful hands to do a kindness to their neighbor, and that’s a good thing.
‘Keep the faith, we’re gonna get through all of this and we will be a better society because of it.’
Fans were touched by the message as one wrote: ‘What a nice message. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and to you too, Alex.’
Another wrote: ‘Happy Thanksgiving to the wonderful crew of Jeopardy! Alex, we love you, and miss you.’
One viewer tweeted: ‘It’s so sad that Alex Trebek never lived to see this day. And thank you, channel 9 for retweeting this.’
It was recently revealed Ken Jennings would be the first guest host, as the show moves on without Alex.
Trebek had fronted the quiz show since 1984 – he had been signed on to host the show until 2022.
Trebek, who has six Daytime Emmy Awards to his name, had suffered mild heart attacked in 2007 and 2012.
He is survived by wife Jean and their two children, son Matthew and daughter Emily.
