Jimmy Kimmel opened up about his youngest son’s health battle in an emotional video to highlight the importance of healthcare in the upcoming election.
The Jimmy Kimmel Live! host urged viewers to ‘vote with your heart’ as he tried to share the reality of life from those who depend on the Affordable Care Act.
On Thursday night’s episode, the star explained: ‘I want to bring us back to focus on something we can’t afford to forget, and that is health care.
‘The vast majority of this country believes that health insurance should cover Americans with preexisting conditions.’
He then shared never-before-seen glimpses at William ‘Billy’ John’ health battle.
The video segment showcased some of the many hospital visits and surgeries Jimmy and wife Molly McNearney attended after their then-newborn son had to undergone three heart surgeries in his first year of life.
Billy was born with the congenital heart condition, tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia, and first needed surgery at just three days old.
In sharing the emotional, personal new photos and videos of Billy (compiled by his wife), Jimmy hoped to put health care at the forefront of voters’ minds.
While addressing President Donald Trump’s attacks on the Affordable Care Act and the potential ramifications for families with a loved one who has preexisting conditions, Molly wrote: ‘Mom’s don’t forget. Please vote.’
At the end of the video, she shared current clips of Billy looking happy and healthy.
Molly added: ‘We are raising him to fight for less fortunate kids. Americans take care of one another. Vote with your heart.’
The US election will take place on November 3.
