Joe Exotic seeking urgent pardon as ‘father dies from Covid-19’

Joe Exotic’s father Francis Schreibvogel has reportedly died following complications from Covid-19.

The Tiger King star is currently seeking a pardon from President Donald Trump, as he serves 22 years in prison for animal abuse and a murder for hire plot.

Now, Joe’s legal team are pushing for the pardon to be sped up in the wake of his father’s death.

According to TMZ, Mr Schreibvogel will be laid to rest this Saturday in Oklahoma, after dying recently from complications related to coronavirus.

Mr Schreibvogel founded the G.W Exotic Animal Park in 1997 along with his son Joe and his wife Shirley, in honour of their son Garold Wayne, who died in a car accident aged 36.

Francis and Shirley appeared in Netflix’s Tiger King last year; Shirley died in September 2019.

Joe Exotic’s legal team is flying to Washington DC today for a meeting at the White House in relation to their pardon plea, using a chartered jet wrapped with the reality star’s name and image.

They are seeking an immediate pardon so Joe can attend his father’s funeral.

However, TMZ says that if this fails, they will ask a judge for a day pass or temporary release so Joe can go to Oklahoma to pay tribute to his father.

He is currently incarcerated in a prison in Fort Worth, Texas.

Joe’s legal team’s meeting in Washington comes the day before the House of Representatives will vote to ratify Joe Biden’s presidency.

It has been claimed that Trump may look to pardon a number of people as a way of distracting from the vote.

The former zookeeper was sentenced to 22 years in prison in January 2019, after being found guilty of two counts of hiring someone to murder his rival Carole Baskin in Florida, on eight counts of violating the Lacey Act by falsifying wildlife records, and on nine counts of violating the Endangered Species Act by killing five tigers and for selling tigers across state lines.

Carole previously asked Trump not to release Joe, who is currently due for release in 2037.

She previously told Channel Seven’s The Morning Show in Australia: ‘I can’t believe that would be a good move for anybody’s political career – given the fact that he was convicted for two counts of murder for hire and 17 counts of wildlife trafficking and abuse, which included shooting five healthy tigers in the head to make room for some circus cats he wanted.’
