It’s been quite the 48 hours for Joe Lycett, and the fun appears to be continuing after an interview on Times Radio today.
After his famous appearance on Laura Kuenssberg’s Sunday morning politics show, the ‘right-wing comedian’, 34, paid a visit to Matt Chorley’s show.
In the interview with Matt, Joe reiterated his comical support for Conservative leadership hopeful Liz Truss, but did confess he’d heard she had a ‘face like a slapped a***’ after his chat with Kuenssberg.
‘Apparently she got up quicker than she’d been told to,’ he said. ‘My BBC source said that [Truss] had – and this is a direct quote – “a face like a slapped arse”, [but] I don’t know what that means,’ Joe told host Matt.
The comedian then revealed that he was disappointed to hear about Truss’ reaction. He said he hoped he hadn’t upset her with his supportive words.
‘I’d be very sad if I’d made Liz Truss sad in any way because she is my favourite politician,’ he teased Times Radio. ‘I’m thrilled that she’s going to be the Prime Minister.’

Earlier this morning, Joe had already reiterated his support for Truss, 47, calling her ‘the best we’re capable of’ in the UK on Jeremy Vine’s talk show.
He continued: ‘I’m a big Liz Truss supporter, I think she’s the absolute best that we’re capable of – she’s Thatcher 2.0 and I’m nostalgic for Thatcher.’
He praised the late former Prime Minister for defeating ‘wokey miners’ and finished his opening salvo by giving a thumbs up: ‘Good job, Margaret.’
Many political commentators and social media users were delighted by his initial comments on Kuenssberg’s show, praising him for being ‘beyond brilliant’.
One user commented: ‘Kuenssberg not having a clue how to handle the situation because [Joe] is technically not saying anything she can editorially disagree with is just superb.’
