Joe Lycett walks off Steph’s Packed Lunch live on air after awkward plastic bottle comment

Joe Lycett appeared to walk off halfway through an appearance on Steph’s Packed Lunch.

The comedian was on today’s instalment of the Channel 4 show to discuss turning to a gym workout to combat a sleepless night.

Earlier in the episode, the 32-year-old explained that he had ditched single-use plastic in his home in an attempt to help the environment.

However, things took a turn just before his interview, as the stars finished up a segment about Love Island homeware style.

Steph began: ‘You’re well into this, aren’t you Joe, because you’ve pimped up your garden and made it look more Love Island? Shall we have a look?’

As a picture of Joe sitting in a deck chair in his garden flashed on screen, he joked: ‘I don’t have a fire pit so I just got a candle.’

The host then spotted a plastic bottle beside his deckchair, something he insisted he had curbed using for environmental reasons.

She asked: ‘Isn’t that one of the bottles you said you’d stopped using, in that picture?’

After a very awkward, lengthy pause, he replied: ‘I didn’t realise I was on Newsnight…’

As everyone laughed off the moment, Steph continued to introduce the rest of the episode, while the camera panned to Joe taking his microphone off and walking off stage.

Addressing his exit after a break, she simply told viewers: ‘Joe Lycett was going to stick with us but he’s had to leave.’

Joe has yet to address his walk-off on social media, but that hasn’t stopped fans discussing the bizarre scenes on Twitter.

One baffled user asked: ‘Why did @joelycett storm off @PackedLunchCh??? What did Steph say to upset him?

‘I still cant work out if Joe Lycett was jokingly walking off camera or if he didn’t realise he was in shot…surely that wasnt a genuine strop?’ another replied.

A follower said: ‘He gets caught out and then storms off. Make a joke of it and move on – thought you were a comedian Joe?’

Another viewer added: ‘Joe Lycett stropping off #stephspackedlunch in a huff is some already classic daytime tv!’

Steph’s Packed Lunch continues on weekdays, from 12.30pm, on Channel 4.
