Junior Bake Off judges Liam Charles and Ravneet Gill rushed over to comfort contestant Maddi as she broke down in tears after being eliminated from the Channel 4 series.
Maddi, 14, was voted out of the competition in finals week after failing to wow the panel in the showstopper challenge, which saw the 2021 contestants tasked with baking doughnuts.
The hopeful was in floods of tears over the news, but Liam and Ravneet quickly went over to her and offered their support.
‘You’re a great baker and you’ve done really, really well,’ said presenter Harry Hill.
‘I won’t lie to you, it’s not a great feeling,’ Charles added. ‘I’ve been there.’
Meanwhile, Ravneet pointed out just how far the budding baker had come.
‘You made it all the way to finals week!’ she enthused.
Speaking to the camera, a teary-eyed Maddi said: ‘I think the expectations were higher than I thought they were going to be.’
‘Maddi has to remember she’s had great moments in the tent; star baker, some of her flavour combinations, her ideas have definitely been up there,’ Liam added.
Explaining why it was Maddi’s turn to go home, Ravneet commented: ‘Maddi did okay in the technical but when it came to the showstopper, she just didn’t bring us enough creativity.’
In tomorrow’s episode of Junior Bake Off, the remaining contestants will be tasked with making a Japanese inspired technical and tartlets combining flavours from around the world.
Who will be sent home and who will be one step closer to winning the series?
Junior Bake Off airs weekdays at 5pm on Channel 4.
