Paul Hollywood gave his first Hollywood handshake of Junior Bake Off 2022 to nine-year-old Quique in tonight’s episode of the Channel 4 series.
The 55-year-old judge was seriously impressed by the youngster’s beehive biscuit piñata showstopper and branded it ‘very special’.
‘I think this is amazing!’ Paul observed as he inspected the detail of Quique’s creation. ‘Love the look of it, love the bee, and you’ve even put windows in there as well.’
After taking a bite out of the bake, Paul remarked ‘nine-years-old’ before extending his hand for one of his infamous – now trademarked – shakes.
Quique jumped for joy after receiving the accolade, with the fellow contestants clapping with delight.
‘That is very special, very clever, well thought through, well baked, great flavours,’ the baker continued.
‘I echo all of that,’ fellow judge Ravneet Gill added. ‘Incredible’.
Over the moon by the critiques, Quique replied: ‘Thank you very much.’
Speaking to the camera, he added: ‘I was the first person to get it, it was really exciting news!’
Quique was also awarded star baker and viewers were living for the heartwarming moment.
‘Quique’s beehive amazing… and he’s only 9yrs old,’ wrote one. ‘So glad Paul gave him that handshake.’ (sic)
Echoing a similar sentiment, another penned: ‘OK, now I’m all emotional. A Hollywood handshake at 9 years old!’
Quique, who hails from Devon, is one of the youngest contestants on this year’s Junior Bake Off, along with Lola and Olivia who are also nine.
Junior Bake Off returns to Channel 4 on Wednesday with the remaining bakers put through their paces during Bread Week.
Junior Bake Off continues on Wednesday at 5pm on Channel 4.
