Kate Garraway was red-faced following an unpleasant knickers mistake on Good Morning Britain.
During Monday’s broadcast, the 56-year-old host was ‘caught short’ and spotted rushing across the studio to get back to her seat in time as the show resumed after an ad break.
As she struggled to collect herself, her co-stars Charlotte Hawkins and Ben Shephard could be heard chuckling.
‘Sorry,’ she sheepishly told viewers, while Charlotte quipped: ‘Don’t worry, no one noticed!’
Not one to miss an opportunity, Ben teased: ‘Was that a wardrobe malfunction?’
‘Well, it’s to do with underwear, but I don’t think we need the details,’ Kate replied, clearly flustered as her friend and co-host looked surprised.
Trying to move on, she quickly added: ‘Richard Arnold is here in a bit!’
The show shifted as they chatted to Andi Peters for the competition segment, but Ben wasn’t letting it go as he joked: ‘We need to save you, Kate needs to address her attire, she got caught short!’
‘Always good for Ben to cover for you,’ she laughed, while Andi joined in the fun by pointing out that her embarrassing run back to the desk was caught in a ‘wide.
‘Seamless! He’s always got your back, Kate, don’t worry! But Kate, there is this thing called a wide shot, so we all saw it, let’s be honest, there was nothing to hide,’ he teased.
Later in the programme, during an interview with Aled Jones, Ben brought up the event again, claiming Kate’s costume required a lot of ‘building’ since she joked she had to go ‘naked’ to the toilet.
It’s not the first time Kate has came dangerously close to making an uncomfortable clothing choice on broadcast, having been forced to change moments before GMB went live earlier this summer.
‘She just looked at me and she said, “Well, I’m just not sure my dress is done up and not sure I’m strapped in,’ Ben revealed as as the programme began, while Kate admitted she had to ‘change [her] dress 30 seconds before the show’.
‘I can’t even dress myself,’ she laughed, while Ben added: ‘The reason she had to change her dress was because it was strobing, so if you were looking at it first thing it would have made your eyes funny.’
Kate pointed out that ‘Holly in wardrobe said it was a small price to play because it was a lovely dress’.
Ben joked: ‘And now we’ll never know! And now we’ve got the advantage of not being sure if things are done up and if you’re strapped in. So who knows what could happen!’
She agreed: ‘Anything could happen!’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV 1.
