Kate Garraway has demonstrated her gratitude towards a fan who spoke out in her defence against ‘negativity’ following the release of her documentary about her husband Derek Draper’s time in hospital over the past year.
On Tuesday evening, ITV aired Kate Garraway: Finding Derek, a moving one-hour film that showed how Derek’s health has been severely affected since being diagnosed with Covid-19 in March last year and the impact his hospitalisation has had on his family.
Numerous people have expressed their admiration for Good Morning Britain presenter Kate following the launch of the documentary, with Piers Morgan and Ben Shephard leading tributes to the broadcaster.
While many viewers found Kate ‘inspiring’ for opening up about her and her family’s life over the past year, there have also been some naysayers who opposed the making of the film.
In response to Ben’s tweet about his ‘friend’ Kate, one critic tweeted: ‘Absolutely shameful that Kate would film this! It’s more Kate the journalist rather than Kate Garraway the wife!’
However, another Twitter user came to Kate’s defence, responding: ‘If you can be anything #BeKind I hope Derek’s children can’t read your silly negativity.’

Kate, 53, liked the tweet, indicating that she was grateful for the fan’s support.
At the very end of the documentary, a title card revealed that former lobbyist Derek, 53, could remain in hospital until December this year.

He and Kate have been married since 2005 and have two children together, 15-year-old Darcey and 11-year-old Billy.
On Wednesday’s edition of Good Morning Britain, presenter Susanna Reid said that Derek would be ‘so proud’ of Kate following the airing of the ITV film.
Sitting alongside co-host Ben, Susanna said: ‘He is so proud of her and he would be so proud of her doing this and what she’s doing with this documentary.’
Ben then added: ‘I think we can very rightly be very proud as well and understand that all we want for you is to know who Kate is.’
In the documentary, one clip showed the moment Derek burst into tears while FaceTiming Kate after waking from his coma.
‘We’ve been waiting a long time to speak to you,’ Kate said over the phone while speaking to her husband.
