Kate Garraway overjoyed as she returns to Smooth Radio with sweet message of ‘hope’ for fans

Kate Garraway marked her return to Smooth Radio with a heartwarming message of hope.

In a clip shared to her Instagram Stories on Monday morning, the 53-year-old looked thrilled as she stood in the radio studio after being welcomed back to work following a break with a box full of cupcakes.

Dressed in a chic white suit and a purple top, the broadcaster gushed: ‘Hello, I’m back at Smooth Radio, so lovely to be back!’

Beaming with positivity, she continued: ‘Lovely to be back, lovely to be air, lovely to be feeling full of the joys of spring.

‘I hope you’re feeling a little bit of hope too,’ she added, perhaps referring to the recent easing of restrictions in England, as well as the gorgeous weather.

It has been a challenging year for Kate, whose husband Derek Draper was admitted to hospital in March last year with coronavirus symptoms.

Speaking about caring for him after he was finally allowed to return home last week, Kate said on Good Morning Britain: ‘We kind of feel over the moon and overwhelmed in equal measure.

‘It is quite an overwhelming responsibility.’

Opening up on the reasons for him coming home, she explained: ‘It was a medical reason for coming home, as well as obviously our desire, and I’m sure his desire too, to try and encourage a more normal environment to stimulate his recovery, cognition, and consciousness better.’

Kate continued: ‘It is a very unique situation, so they’re trying to find unique solutions.’

The presenter also shared that she has installed an alarm system so that Derek can call for help if he requires it.

Derek had been one of the worst-affected coronavirus patients to survive in the UK.

He was rushed to hospital last March with coronavirus symptoms and had been fighting for his life in a coma ever since – with the illness affecting his entire body.
