Kate Garraway had an interesting experience watching Bridgerton as she sat down to binge the series with her teenage daughter – and it’s safe to say those sex scenes were slightly uncomfortable.
The Good Morning Britain host took some time off work recently to recuperate after a stressful year with her husband Derek Draper in hospital recovering from coronavirus.
Naturally, her daughter Darcey, 14, recommended she watch Netflix’s hottest new period drama to help pass the time.
Speaking to Bridgerton actress Adjoa Andoh (Lady Danbury), Kate revealed: ‘It’s wonderful escapism. I was lured into it by my teenage daughter who said, “Mum, you’re gonna love this, it’s a costume drama”, obviously knowing how to press my buttons.
‘If you’ve got a teenage daughter you know the idea of them wanting to do anything with you is exciting.’
She continued: ‘So we sat down and watched it together and I suddenly found myself thinking, “Am I watching a costume drama or am I Love Island?”
‘It’s quite saucy, isn’t it? I almost thought should I be encouraging her to watch this? But then actually said, “Mum, I wish I could wear a ball dress”. Normally she looks like Billie Eilish so I thought, I’m weighing up the idea of getting her into a dress because of this.’
Adjoa weighed in: ‘I think it’s one of the things i love about the show, it has this warm embrace, you can be a feminist… anyone can watch this, anyone can enjoy this.’
Luckily for us, Bridgerton will be back for season two which was recently confirmed.
In case you’re worried about how the sex scenes will play out given they’ll now be filming during the coronavirus pandemic, Adjoa is confident the production team will find a way to keep the pulse going.
‘I can’t give you anything away, it’s more than my life is worth,’ Adjoa said of season two.
When asked if the sex scenes would be socially-distanced, the actress teased: ‘Everybody’s finding ways around this stuff. I don’t think we could.’
‘There are going to be many more love stories because there’s many more Bridgerton children to marry off,’ she added.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
Bridgerton is available to watch on Netflix.
