Kate Garraway, a TV presenter, appears to be the real-life Bridget Jones since so much of her life has been ‘echoed’ by the romantic comedy legend.
In recognition of Good Morning Britain’s tenth anniversary, the team reflected on their favourite moments from the last decade.
Kate, 56, recalls meeting Renée Zellweger, the iconic actress who played the hopeless romantic in three (and soon to be four) films.
They teamed together in 2016 when the Chicago actor ‘came into the gallery to observe how our show is put together’ for the sequel.
She went on to say that they ‘even employed some of [the] studio workers in the production’ of Bridget Jones’s Baby.
The narrative followed Bridget as she worked for Hard News, a fake news television show based on the iconic ITV morning show.
Kate continued: ‘Then I went onto the set of Bridget’s bedroom and she said, “Welcome to your home.” So much of my life seems to have echoed the character Bridget Jones’ adventures!’
She didn’t say what instances were represented in Bridget’s narrative, which included two men — Hugh Grant and Colin Firth — vying over her in the first film.
Renee, 54, had been on site investigating how morning news TV operates in preparation for the sequel.
Erron Gordon, the show’s previous director, even played the director of Hard News in the film, which closely resembled actual life.
Bridget Jones’ Baby grossed more than $211 million worldwide on a $35 million budget, and received generally good reviews.
Kate also remarked that the coverage of Queen Elizabeth II’s death was a remarkable experience and a ‘honour’.
She shared: ‘It was such an honour to be part of it, a real sense of history. Being there as a commentator at Buckingham Palace in the days after her passing and then again throughout the funeral day itself.’
The GMB presenter has taken a break from the morning programme following the loss of her husband, Derek Draper, from long-term Covid problems.
In January, she revealed the death of her 56-year-old husband, as portrayed in an ITV programme.
