Kate Garraway has thanked Roman and Martin Kemp for their ‘kindness’ to her and her family while her husband Derek Draper was in hospital battling coronavirus.
Last year, Kate shared photos and videos of the pair visiting her at home for her son Billy’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here-themed birthday party and revealed that their father-son bond helped them understand what her son was going through.
Roman and Martin spoke to Kate on Good Morning Britain on Friday via video call, where she thanked the pair for taking the time to make the day special for Billy.
She told them: ‘I know that having that close relationship has helped you get through the stress of lockdown. You were both very kind to me roughly this time last year actually.
‘You came over to Billy’s birthday – Martin brought a cake, thank you Martin. Roman came dressed in his jungle gear – he can’t let it go, and they had a brilliant water fight and Nerf battle in the garden.
‘Actually, your relationship and your understanding of what it is, that father and son thing, and what Billy was feeling was so important and it’s because you’ve got that close bond. Derek, of course, was in hospital at the time.’

Roman responded: ‘It’s something that we are super lucky to have – firstly, that was a great birthday party, it was phenomenal!
‘I couldn’t be more grateful and I guess just lucky in terms of who it is that my parents are. Not just the bond that I have with my dad but the bond that I have with my mum as well.’
He revealed that he and Martin had teamed up for their show, Martin and Roman’s Sunday Best in the midst of lockdown as that was the only way they were able to see each other amid the restrictions.
While Roman and Martin enjoyed spending time together, he did admit it made his mum, Shirlie Kemp, pretty jealous as she couldn’t see her son during that time.
