Kate Garraway revealed that her kid was in tears following a quick talk with husband Derek Draper.
Derek, 55, has been under the care of the Good Morning Britain host, 56, since he acquired a serious case of coronavirus in 2020.
Derek still requires round-the-clock care after being hospitalised for 13 months and placed in a medically induced coma at the time.
He has been in and out of the hospital multiple times since his discharge due to a variety of health concerns.
The couple was photographed enjoying a day out in London earlier this year, and they recently attended an Elton John concert, when the singer saw them in the audience and serenaded them.
Now, during an interview on Loose Women on Thursday, Kate revealed a particularly touching conversation between her husband and kid.
‘We’ve got some positive things with Derek and even though the struggles are still the same, I took a decided…we need to fill our days with good stuff,’ she said.
When asked if the family had spoken to Derek, Kate responded it was “more of a whisper.”
‘I don’t think we are necessarily going to have a conversation but you get fantastic moments,’ she said.
‘This is so silly, but Billy had a new basketball and he was bouncing it and suddenly Derek said “is that a new ball?” and we all just gasped.
‘And Billy goes “yes, yes it is” and he goes “it’s nice” and seeing him able to interact, it is something you take for granted, but then Billy was in tears.’
She added: ‘It’s things like that which really lift you up, but then the next day he can be completely still.’
Kate also mentioned during the interview that she was working on a third documentary following the success of Finding Derek and Caring for Derek.
While she did not reveal the title, she did reveal that the objective was to convey the tales of unpaid carers and how they were ‘keeping the country going.’
‘Millions of people are caring out of love…but I didn’t want to make it about blame or anger, because all sorts of government’s have failed to get to the bottom of it, but we have got to find a way of making caring a priority and worthy,’ she said.
‘We are on a journey to try and do that…within an hour.’
She also discussed her next book, The Strength of Love, which will detail how Kate copes with adversity.
‘I didn’t want to write a book about the low times – I wanted to share how I got through,’ she said.
Her comments come only a day after she found herself in an unpleasant scenario after a Classic FM radio announcer inadvertently walked in on her on the toilet.
On Wednesday, the broadcaster decided to arrive more earlier than normal to the Smooth Radio studios, where she delivers a daily show, to catch up on admin before the show went live on-air.
However, after falling asleep, she awoke just as a coworker walked in, unintentionally breaking in on Kate in an uncompromising position.
Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV1.
