Kindness makes a comeback as Ted Lasso season 2 gets trailer and release date

Get out the shortbread – Ted Lasso is back in town.

The trailer for season two of the football comedy has dropped, and as it proclaims, kindness is making a comeback.

Our sweet AFC Richmond gang and American coach Ted Lasso, played by Jason Sudeikis, are back after the events of season one, which saw them relegated to the Championship after losing against Manchester City.

The plucky underdogs look as hapless as ever, racking up eight ties in a row, but Coach Lasso isn’t about to give up on his team.

However, after winning over his players and the people of Richmond last season, it looks like Ted will still have to impress some new additions to the gang, as they welcome a sports psychologist – played by Sarah Niles – to the fold to break AFC Richmond’s string of bad luck.

Unfortunately, the sports psychologist doesn’t like sugar, so Ted’s homemade shortbread won’t work on her.

The trailer also reveals a release date, with the new season of Ted Lasso dropping on Apple TV+ on July 23.

A tweet from the show’s official account also confirmed the release date, reading: ‘I always hear the question: who let the dogs out (who who who who)? With respect to The Baha Men, I prefer WHEN let the dogs out (when when when when)?

‘Cause guess what, Greyhounds? Our 2nd season starts 7/23! Can I get a Bah Amen!? That’s what I used to think they were called.’

Ted Lasso has been a surprise smash for Apple TV+, with the show winning best comedy series at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards and Sudeikis winning the Golden Globe and the Screen Actors Guild Award for best actor in a comedy.

The show – which also stars Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, Nick Mohammed and Juno Temple – follows an American football coach, who is hired by as manager by an English football (or soccer) team.

While it is initially a plan to tank the team, formulated by AFC Richmond’s new owner who wants to get back at her ex-husband, Ted is sure he can turn the team around by caring more about the people on it than wins.

The series has already been renewed for a third season.

Ted Lasso season two is out on July 23.
