Life model laughs at artist’s ‘older, fatter’ portrait of herself in Jenny Eclair’s Drawers Off

A brand new art show with a twist has arrived on Channel 4, and it’s already shaping up to be our latest lockdown obsession.

Drawers Off, hosted by comedian Jenny Eclair, sees a host of artists from all backgrounds and all experience levels gather together to produce life drawing paintings – but the first model wasn’t impressed with all of their efforts on Monday evening.

The opening episode saw model Siobhan provide inspiration for artists with a Statue of Liberty-inspired pose, with contestants given an hour to create a likeness.

Host Jenny was joined by art expert Diana Ali to help judge the artworks, with the artists hoping to win the top prize of £1,000.

They created works in a mix of different mediums, ranging from traditional acrylics to biro and pencil drawings.

Despite the time constraints, all the artists produced impressive works, and the time came for model Siobhan to select her favourite.

Artist Sarah drew in biro and aimed to capture the ‘strength’ and ‘radiance’ of her pose.

However, Siobhan saw things differently and said the artwork ‘made her want to laugh’.

Jenny joked: ‘It’s a sort of older fatter you. It’s very me in a bra and pants.’

The pair still admired some of the techniques Siobhan made used, with Jenny saying it was ‘really rather lovely.’

However, it was tattooist Glyn who impressed Jenny and Siobhan the most with his painting, recreating the show girl pose in a playing card form.

Diana also complimented the portrait, comparing it to a bold illustration from a graphic novel and saying she ‘loved the style of it’.

Glyn’s portrait came out on top, and it was selected as the first painting hung in the winners’ gallery.

Jenny and Diane will be back to judge more artworks on weekdays for the show, with the 20-part series continuing on Tuesday.

Drawers Off continues on Tuesday at 5.30pm on Channel 4.
