Idol contestant Lily-Rose Depp was so at ease singing in front of thousands that she never wanted to leave the stage.
Tedros (The Weeknd), a self-help guru and head of a modern-day cult, enters a tumultuous relationship with rising pop sensation Jocelyn (Lily) in HBO’s forthcoming drama, which premieres on Sunday, June 4th.
The drama is’set against the backdrop of the music industry’ and promises to have ‘the sleaziest love tale in all of Hollywood.’
Lily, the daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, described the emotional impact of performing in front of a stadium crowd.
‘It was quite addicting,’ she told W magazine. I didn’t want to leave.’
‘But I was also thinking about Beyoncé, Mariah, and every huge pop star of our time. I wanted Jocelyn to be the kind of woman who can dominate a room, someone who doesn’t ever shy away from their sparkle,’ she added.
The Idol’s official synopsis reads: ‘After a nervous breakdown derailed Jocelyn’s last tour, she’s determined to claim her rightful status as the greatest and sexiest pop star in America. Her passions are reignited by Tedros, a nightclub impresario with a sordid past. Will her romantic awakening take her to glorious new heights or the deepest and darkest depths of her soul?’
In the full trailer which was released last month, fans witness Jocelyn taking part in a risqué photoshoot, while the character played by singer Troye Sivan asks: ‘When was the last truly-f***ing-nasty, nasty, bad pop-girl?’
The music singer is then spirited away to a party, where she first meets Tedros (Abel Tesfaye). Before the teaser depicts their romance blossoming, the two dance together.
Publication The Rolling Stones also claimed last month that the project was in ‘turmoil’ due to multiple script changes, the departure of director Amy Seimetz after the majority of the series had already been completed, and Levinson taking over and scrapping the ‘nearly-finished’ $54-75 (£45-62) million project to rewrite and reshoot the entire thing.
According to sources, when Levinson took control, he “dialled up the disturbing sexual content and nudity.”
The Idol premieres on HBO for US viewers and Sky for UK viewers on Sunday June 4.
