Line of Duty fans are tearing their hair out after taking desperate measures to work out whose photo Spt. Ted Hastings was staring at, pointing to the mysterious blood relative of DCI Joanne Davidson.

Last night’s instalment, which was a particularly stressful 60 minutes, closed with the bombshell Jo (played by Kelly Macdonald) is related to another person found in police records after forensics scoured Farida Jatri’s (Anneika Rose) flat to find DNA matching someone else other than Jo.

Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) confirmed the only explanation would mean Jo is related to either an officer, suspect or victim on record.

Naturally, fans have plenty of theories from Jackie Laverty (Gina McKee) to Tommy Hunter (Brian McCardie) and John Corbett (Stephen Graham), but who was Ted looking at?

Well actually, the photo he was gasping at was just a photo of Jo, which was a sore point for fans who paused their televisions and rewound to take a closer look.

After a steady start to series six, Line of Duty turned up the volume last night with back to back drama, including a major death and a breath-taking shootout between Steve and a deadly member of the OCG (Organised Crime Gang) armed with a sniper.

We also learned Jo is being blackmailed by the OCG, and despite her best efforts she won’t be able to escape from Ryan Pilkington (Gregory Piper), after trying to remove him from her team.

Line of Duty airs Sundays at 9pm on BBC One.
