Line Of Duty season 6 is nearing the end with the grand finale just two episodes away.

The current chapter of Jed Mercurio’s acclaimed police drama has delivered a number of bombshell moments so far, with Jo Davidson (Kelly Macdonald) revealed to be related to Tommy Hunter (Brian McCardie) and Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) and Ryan Pilkington (Gregory Piper) facing off in a gripping gun showdown.

The identity of H still remains a complete mystery though and with the clock ticking, fans have desperately been wondering whether there will be another series on the horizon.

So naturally, we’ve got everything you need to know on whether Line Of Duty will be returning for season seven.

Will there be another season of Line of Duty?

Line Of Duty creator Jed Mercurio recently shared that a seventh series is not yet guaranteed, mainly due to the coronavirus pandemic.

‘We’re in a situation where it’s not entirely clear that there will be a seventh series,’ he told Radio Times in March. ‘We would hope there could be.

‘But we’re having to do our planning coming out of Covid, and a whole bunch of other things around the idea that these things aren’t guaranteed at all now.’

The cast is desperate for the police drama to return for another chapter.

Ted Hastings actor Adrian Dunbar told press last month that he’s keen for at least one more season because he doesn’t want the show to ‘end like this’.

‘It was very tricky and I think Vicky said something which I would absolutely roll in behind, which is that we can’t really stop now, we’ve got to do another series,’ he said.

‘I mean we’ve all to get on to Jed and say, “We’ve got to do one that’s not like when we were in lockdown.”

‘We’ve got to do one where we’re back on the ground, we’re out there, we’re in the city, we’re having fun. It’s a great city to have fun in, Belfast, and so you really want to get back to doing that again.

‘But, at the same time, we really felt privileged and lucky that we were able to complete the series, and that it’s going to go out this year.’

Co-star Martin Compston agreed with Adrian’s sentiment.

‘It would be a shame to end it this way,’ he added. ‘We’ve said it’s such a sociable job and us all hanging out together has become such a big aspect, we’re such close friends, and I’ll include Jed in that.

‘I think it’d be a shame to go that way, but definitely with Jed as well, there’s always potential for it to go on. We could always start a new case.’

Although the BBC has not yet confirmed whether Line Of Duty will be returning, it certainly has been the most raved about show with a whopping 15million fans tuning in to the first episode of the series last month.

How many episodes are there in Line of Duty season 6

This time around, Line Of Duty fans will get an extra week of action from the beloved police drama as series 6 will run for seven episodes.

Previous seasons have been six episodes long.

The BBC made the announcement on social media in February with the help of characters Ted and Steve.
