Lionel Messi laughs backstage with co-stars ahead of acting debut in Argentinian TV series Los Protectores

Footballing star Lionel Messi will be hoping to impress fans when he makes an appearance in the second season of the Argentinian TV series, Los Protectores.

Messi is one of the most iconic stars of the game, having reached legendary status for both Barcelona and PSG, as well as being the undoubted star of the Argentinian national team.

However, he’s looking to try out something new as he is set to feature in his first-ever acting role.

While he has previously featured in advertisements for various brands such as Pepsi and Turkish Airlines, this will be the first time he’ll get to try out his acting chops.

A new backstage video from the set of the series has shown the footballer having fun on set as he prepares to film for the role.

In the clip, Messi is seen being welcomed by the cast, as they sip on glasses of champagne.

He is set to appear as a ‘special guest’ in season two, in scenes being shot in Paris.

The PSG forward laughs with his co-stars in the short snippet, as he appears excited ahead of filming.

The second season has been filmed on location across Buenos Aires as well as the French capital, and is set to come to screens next year.

The upcoming new episodes will follow three football agents who ‘face an unexpected threat to their business.’

Unfortunately, it isn’t currently available to watch in the UK, and features on channel Star+ in Argentina.

The show is made by Disney, who confirmed it had been renewed for a second season a week before season one premiered back in March.

It comes after Messi’s sensational international performance on Sunday night, netting all five goals in a friendly against Estonia.

It’s only the second time he’s achieved the feat, having amassed a quintet of goals came in 2012 when he put five past Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.

While Estonia may only be ranked 110th in the world, it didn’t stop fans from being in awe at the 34-year-old’s achievement.

It also puts the South American team in great stead ahead of the Qatar World Cup, which comes after their unbeaten World Cup qualifying campaign and last year’s Copa America triumph.
