There is some debate over whether Sophia is playing Lady Loki (Picture: Marvel Studios/Disney Plus)
Warning: spoilers ahead for episode 2 of Loki.
In the final few moments of Loki episode 2, the Marvel Disney Plus series confirmed the arrival of Lady Loki (Sophia Di Martino), a female version of Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief.
Or did it?
While many fans scrambled to share their excitement over the arrival of Lady Loki in the MCU following months of rumours, some voiced their opinion that the character was actually someone else – Sylvie, otherwise known as Enchantress in the Marvel comics.
The speculation was fuelled after some fans spotted that in the credits for the voice-dubbing casts, one of the actors voicing Sophia’s role was credited as playing ‘Sylvie’, while the others were referred to simply as ‘The Variant’.
However, the writer of the episode may have let slip a key clue pointing towards Lady Loki definitely being the lethal variant being chased after by the TVA (Time Variance Authority).
The second episode of the series, titled ‘The Variant’, was written by Elissa Karasik.

Following its release, the TV writer shared a tweet expressing her thanks to other women who worked on the show, including director Kate Herron and fellow Loki writers Bisha K Ali and Jess Dweck.
However, Elissa specifically referred to them as ‘the OG Lady Lokies’… which, in our eyes, is a pretty massive hint of the character introduced in the episode that she wrote.
‘F*** tried to stay offline today bc I’m on deadline but…Thank you to everyone who has watched so far. This one goes out to the OG Lady Lokies @bishakali @iamkateherron @TheDweck,’ Elissa wrote.
‘Thank Frigga we crossed timelines before getting pruned #Loki,’ she added, in reference to Loki’s adoptive mother Frigga, played by Rene Russo in the MCU.

Is this the confirmation we needed that Lady Loki has arrived, not the Enchantress?
While we may not find out for sure until the next episode is released, another reason why some fans think Sophia is playing Sylvia is because she has blonde hair, which evidently is a stark contrast to Loki’s jet black locks.
In the Marvel comics, Sylvie is the second person to adopt the alias Enchantress.
She has strong links to Loki, as she is a young woman imbued with powers by the Asgardian trickster for the sole purpose of causing chaos.
Considering the variant that Loki helped the TVA track down in episode two is doing exactly that – having stolen the organisation’s reset charges and bombed the sacred timeline – it would make sense if it was Sylvie behind the mayhem.
So is it Lady Loki or Sylvie? And will Richard E Grant be unmasked as an older version of Loki as the series progresses? A third of the way through, we have so many questions that need answering.
Loki returns on Wednesday and is available to watch on Disney Plus.
